Blogging has come a long way but it is still considered less serious kind of writing. Not anymore! WordPress has come up with a latest writing course in its Blogging University, ‘Writing 201: Beyond the Blog post’, to help you write longer pieces. This course is a product of Longreads, you can enroll in this WordPress Writing 201: Longform if you wish to improve your skills in longform writing or challenge yourself as a blogger. Longform is basically referred to as pieces that have above 1500 word count.
This isn’t a blogging course
This course is not for those who wish to learn blogging, it is focussed on writing longform pieces. It is a 4-week course and each week, the focus will be on variety of writing pieces, ranging from interviews to instructional pieces and opinion piece that usually end with a personal essay.
WordPress Writing 201: Longform
This isn’t an assignment based course, it gives you the freedom to publish anywhere and the time you’d like. The emphasis is more on exploring new forms and workshopping your material. Blogging University is a closed community where they stress you to workshop while you write your pieces. This helps a lot, the opinions of fellow members and constructive feedback helps improve the writing. They believe it is more about collaborative brainstorming where you can be critique to one another, ask questions and give specific feedback.
Each Workshop will get published on Mondays and will be focussed on any one kind of longform writing piece to get you started. The course starts on December 1, 2014 and you will get to finish your last workshop by the end of the month. The best thing about the course is the flexibility it offers in terms of Workshop, you need not publish a post if you wish.
