It is extremely important to have a mobile responsive site.
The only problem is, most of you guys have been holding back just because you didn’t realize how important it was. Well, now Google has given you royal reason to make your site mobile responsive or your serp rankings (on mobile) will literally be fukted.
If you have an extremely low attention span like moi, skip the entire article and just follow the two points below:
1)Check your site to see if its mobile friendly.
2)If not, read Google’s mobile seo guide.
Exponential Growth
Look around you – everybody is on their mobile devices.
Couples on romantic dates, people in the movie theaters and even dogs – they’re ALL on their mobile devices . Studies (by Google) have shown that desktop growth is stagnant while mobile is growing at exponential values.
More than 1.75 billion smartphone users are there at the moment and it is expected to cross the 2 Billion mark by 2016.
Think about it for a moment. Common sense will tell you that mobile is the future. Don’t get left behind – make your website mobile friendly.
Google’s New Algorithm
Our king, Google has announced a change in their ranking algorithm which will take effect on April 21st. Google’s Bish, Bing, hasn’t announced anything of the sort but they are obviously going to follow. According to Google, Mobile friendliness of the websites will be an important factor for good rankings (on mobile). Websites will also get a ‘Mobile-friendly’ label in the mobile search results and this will directly affect your rankings in the serps.
Higher Intent To Purchase
Did you know that people searching on mobile for a product have a higher intent to purchase?
Mobile Phone users tend to buy products immediately. More than 50% want to purchase within an hour and many more want to purchase within the day. These mobile folks are extremely important and what kind of person with common sense wouldn’t want to make more sales?
Rankings aside, you’re in business to make money. If you’re not structuring your website to generate sales, I don’t know what you’re thinking!
WordPress Options
Luckily, most new wordpress themes are all mobile responsive. If you weren’t lucky enough to buy a mobile responsive theme, you have 4 options –
1)Hire somebody on Odesk, Elance, or Freelancer.com (There are a lot of good developers but a ton who are dumb as a brick).
2)Buy a new mobile responsive theme (Might require a good amount of up front work but will be worth it at the end).
3)Do nothing (Get Fukt).
4)Use a plugin like WP Touch Pro (Probably the easiest option. Free to start but they try to gauge your wallets with their pro options).
