Jetpack 2.8 is out now and it comes with a new module called Markdown, Jetpack 2.8 also comes with some improvements to Jetpack Monitor.

Since introducing Markdown on WordPress.com, we’ve had a lot of requests to bring it over to Jetpack. Well, queue the trumpets, start the drumroll, Markdown is here!

What is Markdown on Jetpack 2.8?

Markdown was earlier introduced on WordPress.com which is now a part of Jetpack 2.8 as well. Markdown is a quick way to add formatted text without writing out any HTML. Markdown lets you compose links, lists, and other styles using regular characters and punctuation marks.

This new module will give you option to write and edit rich text without learning any complicated codes.

Publicize for Custom Post Types as well

Another important update on this new version Jetpack 2.8 is about the Publicize module, it will support custom post type as well to post content social media networks automatically.

You’d need to make one small tweak in the code defining the CPT—just add ‘publicize’ to the CPT’s ‘supports’array.

An example given by the Jetpack team, to enable the title, editor, Publicize, and Jetpack’s new support for Markdown: 'supports' => array( 'title', 'editor', 'publicize', 'wpcom-markdown' ),

Jetpack Monitor notifications

Jetpack 2.8 comes with some improvements done on the Monitor module as well, now multiple users can now receive Jetpack Monitor email notifications.

As an admin user linked to WordPress.com, you can opt in to receive these notifications right from your dashboard. Just navigate to the Jetpack page, find the Monitor module card, and click on Configure. Then, check the “Receive Monitor Email Notifications” setting and save your changes
