We’ve been hard at work on version 3.0 of the Akismet plugin for WordPress. It’s a major rewrite of the plugin code that includes a new configuration page, improved signup and activation, and some new features.

Akismet is the most popular and widely used spam protector for comment and track-back, every time a new comment, trackback, or pingback is added to your site it’s submitted to the Akismet which runs set of tests to identify if the comment is valid.

Though Akismet is a premium service, it gives unlimited free uses for non-commercial sites (For personal, non-commercial sites and blogs)

• An easier signup and activation process
• An even easier activation process for Jetpack users
• A redesigned configuration tab

• A new discard feature for outright blocking of the worst spam

If you’re a Jetpack user, the Akismet option will show under the Jetpack menu.  If you are not using Jetpack, the Akismet option will show under Settings, and plugin page as well.
