Are you a Google Glass & WorPress Fan? If yes, there is a great news for you. Weber Shandwick a PR & communications firm has recently the first WordPress Plugin for Google Glass called wpForGlass.
It is currently the only WordPress Plug-In that we are aware of that you can install to a self-hosted WordPress blog. We’ve open-sourced it too, so you can fork the code-base and help us improve it.
How wpForGlass Works?
wpForGlass relies on Google’s Mirror API to function it’s activity. The Mirror API is a web-based service for Glassware that uses web services as the layer to build Glassware on top of.
The functioning of wpForGlass is quite clear from the image above. Take a photo or a video, share that media with the content card which is set by wpForGlass for your blog, you have the provision to speak a caption before the media is uploaded.
Your media will be stored on Google’s server, Google will send a notification to your wpForGlass installation that a new media has been shared, wpForGlass will download the piece of media from Google’s server and generate a WordPress post for you.
From a technology perspective what this means is that the time it takes for a post to show up on your blog is dependent on how long it takes for the Mirror API to process your media, and send your server a timeline notification.
In our experience, it’s usually within a few minutes for images. Video can take longer because a video needs to upload to Googles servers first, where it is then processed.
We are sure there will be many other WP plugins for Google Glass in the time to come from the enthusiastic WordPress community, wpForGlass definitely showed the way and lead as far as WordPress for Google glass is concerned.
